National Health Insurance Reform It’s Official Now

National Health Insurance Reform passed its final legislative hurdle last night as the US House passed 220-207 (a re-vote) a package of amendments made to the Senate’s health insurance plan. Earlier in the day the Senate passed the “Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010” (H.R. 4872) by a vote of 56-43 using budget reconciliation rules that required only a simple majority (51 votes) bypassing a potential filibuster. While the President signed the Senate’s original bill on March 23rd, the amendments passed yesterday will now go to his desk for signature, completing the overhaul of the reform measure. It is expected that the President will sign the package of amendments as early as today.

Yesterday Conner Strong issued a Year by Year Summary of the major events and when the various measures will take effect. Over the course of the next several days Conner Strong will continue to evaluate and review the details of these historic changes.
